ITQAN Develops Labor Force Survey for National Bureau of Statistics

12/20/2009

Abu Dhabi, 20 December 2009 – Local systems’ integrator ITQAN Al-Bawardi Computers recently signed off the implementation of a labor force survey administered by the National Bureau of Statistics with the collaboration of several statistics centers across the country.

The findings of the project aim to evaluate the overall employment condition and will be an important source for analyzing and defining UAE’s employment community. National Bureau of Statistics Director, Majid Sultan Al-Ali explains that “the survey aims to provide accurate and comprehensive information about UAE’s labor force in terms of demographics, and its correlation with their occupations and economic sectors they are part of, and in the process classifying them as employed, or unemployed or not part of the labor force. ITQAN was chosen for this project on the strength of its previous success in handling similar projects with the Center of National Statistics.”

According to Al-Ali, the technologies and equipments supplied by ITQAN to implement this survey is the most updated, and state-of-the-art tools to collect and classify all required data. It is also the first time a nation-wide survey is being conducted across all Emirates simultaneously, where it aims to identify the size of the labor force and how it’s spread across the country and assessing its role in economic development based on several factors, such as age, sex, educational background and degrees, family status, range of salaries, levels of training, working hours and working days.

ITQAN’s General Manager, Feras Al-Jabi expressed his appreciation and pride of having the National Bureau of Statistics trust ITQAN with such a pivotal and groundbreaking project. Al-Jabi says that ”the results of this survey will play an effective role in helping decision makers and authorities in formulating the best labor policies that will ultimately help fresh graduates and unemployed personnel get selected for occupations that are the most fit for their educational background, degrees and career specializations. In addition, this survey will most definitely help in narrowing the gap between opportunities in the market, and graduates in respect to their specializations and backgrounds by making use of the suitable training and development programs.

Al-Jabi says that the solution availed for this project ensures that the information is collected in the most efficient, accurate and time saving manner. A completely paperless and automated approach is put into practice whereby hard copy documents and the costs attached to duplicate, store, and circulate them are cut down. This also promotes more accuracy and precisions in handling the information, which is a crucial factor seeing the criticality of the data at hand.

“The information was instantly collected from around the country and submitted to 14 statistics centers around the country that are linked to the National Bureau of Statistics. The solutions used for information gathering were developed on Microsoft dot Net technologies,” added Al-Jabi. “The survey was also implemented based on a sampling basis, where the sample was chosen according to the nature and goals of the survey. The sample also had to be representative of the larger population in order to generalize the findings and have them applied across all UAE.”
